The Dickter Family – Steve, Janice, Ben and Josh

“We started training with CCSKC as a family when our boys were preteens.  It was a huge thing to be able to do something together as equal partners.  In CCSKC, we were all part of the club at the same level, and were treated as valued members.  The boys grew up in the club and remain passionate members, and it provided some of our favorite family memories.  Traveling to Alaska for the boys to compete in the national championship (and win!!), stories of the boys sparring with mom and dad (and winning!), and nervousness together for testing, as well as comradery and fantastic social events with a terrific group of people.  The boys learned important self-defense skills as well as self-control, and the rewards of working hard towards goals.”

We have trained together at Chester County Shotokan Karate Club for over six years. We enjoy having Karate in common because it gives us so much to talk about and share. The club is full of friends so it’s easy to stick to the schedule of weekly training because we look forward to seeing everybody. There are opportunities throughout the year get together outside of the dojo as well – the holiday party, barbeques, and camping trips.

Sticking with Karate as a regular routine has motivated us to undertake additional fitness activities which have increased our overall health and conditioning tremendously. Training Karate motivates you to change – to push harder, work outside your comfort zone, persevere and succeed. Those qualities filter into life outside the dojo making you more effective in everything you do.

Shotokan Karate is for all ages and fitness levels. No one should ever hesitate to come try a class because they think they are not in good enough shape. Our instructors are skilled martial arts practitioners who receive regular training in various teaching methodologies. As a result, they are able to craft training exercises to all levels of fitness.

We would certainly recommend Chester County Shotokan Karate Club for anyone who is looking to exercise and get out and meet some new friends.

I started with CCSKC (then the Downingtown Karate Club) when I was a 15 year old kid in 1985. It was the first time that I had ever taken any kind of martial arts class.  I trained for a couple of years until college and a job pulled me away to places where Shotokan didn’t yet exist. During my time spent at two different colleges in two very different locations, I was able to train in college clubs that welcomed all styles of martial arts (Karate, Jui Jitsu, Tai Kwon Do, etc.). Being able to see other styles and train with people in those styles was an eye opener, in that I realized quickly that the quality of the instruction that I had at CCSKC and with Sensei Hoffman was second to none.

A full 25 years later, I had an interest in restarting my training, and looked at a few other schools.  Then, I returned back to see CCSKC as well, hoping to find it to be as great as when I left all those years ago.  In a nutshell—it’s even better than when I left.  I found not only Sensei Hoffman still there, but many of the same people there that I knew a while back as well.  Now that I have a family of my own, my daughter trains with me.

This is a family oriented club (we do more together than just train), with world-class instruction (really—take a look at the web site to see what it takes to become an instructor), and great affordable rates (don’t let anyone tell you that it “couldn’t be that great if it’s that inexpensive”).

I wouldn’t train or take my family anywhere else.  Great people.  Great club.  Unbelievable lineage.  See for yourself.  You won’t be disappointed.
